These are some resources that I’ve found helpful as a writer who is just getting started.
The Editor’s Blog – This one makes me think a lot about the language I am using to craft a story.
Grammar Girl – Language is your most important tool as a writer. This site helps if you want to use it right, but don’t know the difference between a colon and a semicolon.
Writing Excuses – A podcast on writing. Totally worth wading through the hard-to-navigate website to reach the archives. Great car listening.
Manuscript Format – If you’re trying to sell your writing, you should try to make it look professional when you’re submitting it.
Cover Letters for Submissions – What to do, and what not to do, when creating a cover letter for a short story submission.
The Grinder – A free website with a searchable index of submissions markets.
Scrivener – A great drafting resource, kind of like a cross between a note program, a wiki, and a word processor. Not free, but it does have a free trial.
